Getting “Crazy” At Saratoga (7/30/16)

Jul 30th, 2016 | By | Category: Saratoga, Today's Picks

Fast and firm for the Saturday card — only 2 more small priced winners yesterday and this has been a trip that has not been successful.  Too many maiden races where form is limited and many horses who just didn’t figure at all seem to be running their eyeballs out.  There is a $500,000 carryover in the pick 6 which will easily be a million by post time and it is a quality card today, so let’s see how we do.  One last thing — I just wanted to thank my buddy Scott Rothbort for inviting us to his home in the Lake George area for over 10 years now and taking me out on the boat to swim in Lake George.  And thanks to Lois Engel who owns Pucker Ridge Farm in Warrensburg for letting me come to see their horses — she is a great supporter of racing and a great ambassador for the sport.  Back to the card today without scratches….

In race 4, The Grade 2 Amsterdam, Maniacal (#2) steps up but may have things his own way on the lead and post the upset at 5-1 or so – key in all doubles and pick 3′s and play an exacta box with #’s 7 and 5.

In race 6, Esther the Queen (#8) has good positional speed in a race without much and speed has been good at this 5.5 furlong distance on turf — key in all doubles and pick 3′s and play an exacta box with #’s 10 and 2.  Here’s the entire card and good luck!

Race 1: 8, 6 and 1

Race 2: 5, 6 and 8

Race 3: 3, 6 and 11

Race 4: 2 (Best Bet) with 7 and 5

Race 5: 3, 8 and 7

Jul 29th, 2016 | By | Category: Saratoga, Today's Picks

Fast and firm for the Friday card — not a very good day yesterday with only 2 short priced winners on top and today’s card doesn’t inspire either, so let’s see how we do today.

In race 10, Task Force Glory (#7) goes for very successful human connections and drops for the winning run today — key in all doubles and pick 3′s and play an exacta box with #’s 1 and 9.

In race 3, Secure Access (#2) was way too ambitious in Grade 1 race and should get a nice pace to set up late run at a nice price — key in all doubles and pick 3′s and play an exacta box with #’s 8 and 7.  Here’s the entire card and good luck!

Race 1: 4, 7 and 1

Race 2: 13, 6 and 5

Race 3: 2 (Best Bet) with 8 and 1

Race 4: 6, 3 and 4

Race 5: 4, 9 and 1

Race 6: 4, 6 and 9

Race 7: 3 with 8 and 1

Race 8: 5 with 2 and 3

Race 9: 1 with 6 and 4

Race 10: 7 (Best Bet) with 1 and 11

A “Liberal” Pick At Saratoga (7/28/16)

Jul 28th, 2016 | By | Category: Saratoga, Today's Picks

Fast and firm for the Thursday card — had a horrible day my first time at the track with no winners on top and a couple of races where  my top three picks ran out of the money.  A terrible card by Saratoga standards today so wait for the weekend to really get into things, but have to be better today, so let’s see how I do.  By the way, World Apart, my buddy Scott Rothbort’s filly, ran second in a division of the sire stakes and broke the track record even in defeat.  This horse may be a champion before all is said and done this year.

In race 6, Liberal Spin (#1) gets cozy inside post and keeps Irad after being claimed by Contessa — key in all doubles and pick 3′s and play an exacta box with #’s 5 and 6.

In race 9, John’s Island (#9) gets a fast pace in a race packed with speed and will be a price — key in all doubles and pick 3′s and play an exacta box with #’s 8 and 5.  Here’s the entire card and good luck!

Race 1: 4, 2 and 1

Race 2: 6, 2 and 7

Race 3: 7, 2 and 3

Race 4: 4, 6 and 1

Race 5: 9, 2 and 8

Race 6: 1 (Best Bet) with 5 and 6

Race 7: 6, 5 and 3

Race 8: 6, 4 and 9

Race 9: 9 (Best Bet) with 8 and 5

Race 10: 6, 8 and 10

A “Spectacular” Day At Saratoga (7/27/16)

Jul 27th, 2016 | By | Category: Saratoga, Today's Picks

Fast and firm for the Wednesday card – arrived in Saratoga yesterday for my annual trip to my buddy (and well known investment money manager) Scott Rothbort’s house for several days of boating and horseplaying, so let the festivities begin.  Also, Scott and his business partner Dan Baer (the mastermind of the operation) have a 2 year old filly named World Apart running at Saratoga Harness tonight in race 11.  This filly has a chance to be something special and this might be my chance to get my picture taken in the winner’s circle — something that’s been on my bucket list for a long time, so let’s wish the horse and the human connections a wonderful night at the track!

As for the flats, in race 9, Spectacular Me (#6) loves the local turf course, gets the best turf rider in the game and a fast pace to set up late run — key in all doubles and pick 3′s and play an exacta box with #’s 3 and 7.

In race 10, Sly Tom (#8) is the most consistent of these in wide open turf finale and will be a good price — needs to be a little closer to the pace today and then can run these down late.  Key in all late multi-race wagers and play an exacta box with #’s 6 and 9.  Here’s the entire card and good luck!

Race 1: 6 with 7 and 4

Race 2: 8, 7 and 6

Race 3: 3, 7 and 5

Race 4: 5, 6 and 2

Race 5: 9, 5 and 1

Race 6: 5, 4 and 2

Race 7: 12, 10 and 11

Race 8: 7 with 1 and 4

Race 9: 6 (Best Bet) with 3 and 11

Race 10: 8 (Best Bet) with 6 and 9
