Day 8 At Saratoga – Trying To “Master” The Speed Play (8/6)

Aug 6th, 2009 | By mircon1 | Category: Saratoga, Today’s Picks

Fast and firm today at The Spa and drier conditions could mean that speed horses could be more dangerous on both the main track and the turf!

In race 3, a $75,000 optional claimer with some talented horses, Spin Master (#1) last raced at Saratoga two years ago in the Kings Bishop.  Has some back class and could sit just off a reasonable pace set by Garifine (#2) and get the first jump on the closers.  I’m keying him with Mister Triester (#5) and Past The Point (#7) in exactas and playing some doubles and pick 3’s.

Keeping with the speed play angle, in race 6, a competitive claimer on the turf, Ballast (#1) could have an easy lead and hold off the closers.  I’m keying him in exactas with Adagio (#3) and Big Stick (#8) and playing him in doubles and pick 3’s.  Not handicapping the first race jumper so here’s the remainder of the card and good luck!
