Day 30 At Saratoga — Say “What” (8/31)

Aug 31st, 2009 | By mircon1 | Category: Saratoga, Today’s Picks

A beautiful week on tap for the last week at The Spa with the track fast and the turf today is good.  I’ve learned so much during this meet and I can’t wait to write about it and share my thoughts with all of you!

As for today, in race 9, The Saratoga Dew, What A Pear (#5) can benefit from some early scratches to sit close to a slow pace and get the first jump on the closers in this 1 1/8 contest.  I will play her in an exacta box with Borrowing Base (#9) and key in doubles and pick 3’s.

In race 10, a competitive turf route, Midwatch (#1) can lead them all the way in this fairly paceless race and he can handle a soft course and this level of competition.  I’m boxing him in exactas with Dancing Tin Man (#3) and Ruff and Ready (#6) and keying in doubles and pick 3’s.  Here’s the entire card and good luck!

Race 1: 1 and 4

Race 2: 6 and 2

Race 3: 3 and 6

Race 4: 3 (Best Bet)

Race 5: 2B, 4 and 6

Race 6: 4 with 1 and 7

Race 7: 11, 14 and 8

Race 8: 7 with 1 and 3

Race 9: 5 (Best Bet) and 9

Race 10: 1 (Best Bet) with 3 and 6

Day 29 Recap At Saratoga — A Reversal Of Form And Fortune (8/30)

Aug 31st, 2009 | By mircon1 | Category: Saratoga, Today’s Picks

Just like horses, handicappers can have dramatic form reversals which can lead the way back to profitability.  After starting out the week very cold, I got hot very quickly on Sunday’s card.  No Travers hangover for me.  After not even being close in races 1 and 2, I listed winners in 8 of the next 9 races, including 5 on top, and had a flat bet profit of $42.20!  From races 3-8, I listed 5 doubles, 4 pick 3’s, 1 exacta box and 1 cold exacta!  Prices in the pick 3’s ranged from $83 to $374 — some nice payoffs due to listing a 10-1 shot in race 4.

After being beaten a nose in race 9 which broke the winning streak, I came back with a cold late double for $155, a cold exacta in race 11 for $147 which included a $35 horse on top!  The pick 6 came back over $36,000 and I was a nose away from listing my second pick 6 of the meet.  On a day like this, I guy can dream, but I’m only one bad day away from a nightmare!
