Day 29 At Saratoga — Time For A New Pet “Project” (8/30)

Aug 30th, 2009 | By | Category: Saratoga, Today's Picks

It’s a beautiful day at Saratoga, but yesterday’s rain has left the track muddy and the turf course soft.  Only races 4 and 9 remain on the turf so the card is not as good as it should be.  Only three races really worth talking about and betting on.  In race 10, The Personal Ensign, Icon Project (#6) may get a good pace set-up, likes a wet surface and can handle the demanding 1 1/4 distance.  I’m keying her in doubles and pick 3′s.

In race 4, Bestowed (#3) is making his third start after a long layoff, gets a soft course and an inside post — he is my pick in this competitive statebred turf mile.  I’ll play him in an exacta box with Unflagging (#9) and Piazza DiSpagna (#5) and in doubles and pick 3′s.

In race 9, Gaelic Storm (#8) likes soft turf and can stay close to a contested pace and rally to post the upset.  I’m using him in an exacta box with Ballast (#2) and Flying Discount (#1) and key in doubles and pick 3′s.  Here’s the entire card and good luck!

Race 1: 6 and 2

Race 2: 1 and 7

Race 3: 5 and 2

Race 4: 3 (Best Bet) with 9 and 5

Race 5: 4 and 6

Race 6: 8 and 5

Race 7: 2B and 3

Race 8: 1X and 4

Race 9: 8 (Best Bet) with 2 and 1

Race 10: 6 (Best Bet) and 4

Race 11: 8 with 2B and 6

Day 28 (Travers Day) Recap At Saratoga — Not A Complete Washout (8/29)

Aug 30th, 2009 | By | Category: Saratoga, Today's Picks

So Travers day has come and gone and Mother Nature tried to rain on our parade and only managed to knock a few races off the turf.  The fields were still competitive and it was a good day to try and make some money when all was said and done.

So my buddy Scott Rothbort and I decided just to play my most profitable bet at the meeting and bet $5 exacta boxes in all races where I listed 3 horses.  It was a disaster and we lost every bet — $150 in all.  So why wasn’t Travers Day a complete washout?  Well, if you played my other profitable bets ($1 doubles and $1 pick 3′s) on all races, along with the exacta boxes, you made a few dollars.  I listed 7 winners, only two on top, and got hot in races 5, 6 and 7 (including a $142 double and $493 pick 3), so you made enough gains overall on both those bets to overcome the exacta losses.  I hope you stuck to the plan and made some money.
