The Saratoga “Dragon” — A Six-Week Scorcher In My Quest To Be The Best Handicapper In America
Jul 22nd, 2009 | By mircon1 | Category: Saratoga, Today’s PicksSo every quest has it’s dragon and to be the best handicapper in America you have to win the battle against a real fire-breathing enigma — the summer meet at Saratoga! At this historic venue in upstate New York, there are handicapping fireballs at every turn. Huge fields with the best horses to navigate, the greatest trainers and jockeys in the world who regularly beat you to the winner’s circle, weather changes that can create havoc with your selections and a track that clearly appeals to some animals more than others. They say it’s a “graveyard for favorites,” but it kills many more handicappers than horses every year.
So, starting on Wednesday, July 29th, this handicapper will be taking on the dragon in an attempt to become the greatest handicapper in America! I vow to handicap every race during the meet along the way and report on my victories and defeats with equal aplomb. I will challenge every expert in every paper and website across the country in a fight to the finish and at the end of the meet, I hope the only red on my face is a nice sun tan and not third degree burns from the Saratoga dragon. Remember, this is a journey worth taking and I want everyone to be right there with me every step of the way. Thanks for all your help and support and check out the website with more information to come!
what a great and well written article-saratoga has indeed broken many hearts with photo finishes often going the wrong way-the upcoming meet figures to be a real barn burner with challenges galore but lets hope every close finish and every run away winner goes our way-let the games begin and good luck to all—
remember to stay focused for the whole card! Thanks for the comment!
I can see it already —Race #2 – one mile & 1/16 on the turf all first-time starters (Mott, Pletcher, Clement, Voss….etc.) Race #4 5 & 1/2 on the dirt all firsters, but wait the next great one! 3-5 down the drain!!!!!! Then throw in at least two 6F on the turf and you have a typical card at the SPA! I can’t wait for the best 6 weeks of the year to begin! Good luck to all….
Wow…such passion and apparent love of the game. Only one problem with your scenario — they don’t run 6 furlong turf races at Saratoga, they are only 5 1/2 furlongs. Better get your head on straight or else the contest will be over in week 1. I’ll call you today.
Scoobydo will warm up opening day with a few selections (geeting ready to bury you starting Saturday)….In race 2 I’ll dabble with “Mythical Yarn”, in the third I’ll box Pyro, Finallymadeit, & Silver Edition…the 7th race a Win bet o Wildcat Nation followed by another Win bet on Decelerator in the 9th! Remember I’m just waring up for the competition!!!!!! Good Luck!
